Which “You” do you show the world?

FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

We want our audience to see that you should never hide your true self just to fit in. Everyone is different in their own way and they should be proud of that. We hope it motivates the audience to help make a change in the world by becoming more accepting of the things that make us all unique.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

We get to inspire people! It’s so cool to be able to make a film about any subject you want. Being able to film and edit in today’s world is huge. When so many “creators, influencers, and social media advertising” it is a skill that will serve us well in the future. Our favorite part is the idea process and discussing how we want to get our point across. We think films like this could actually have an impact on someone and we love that.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The “rant’ scene was by far the most fun scene to film. To see our lead actress, Kylie, step out of her comfort zone and go on this rant actually in front of the whole school was amazing. She prepared quite a bit for the scene and knew how important it was to our movie and we think she nailed it. It was awesome.
Our students also like the “Pitstop” scene but that was because they got to eat.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

Our most challenging obstacle in this film was the make up. We don’t have any experience or any makeup professionals so that part was tough and had a learning curve. We just hope our makeup was good enough to get our point across and not take away from the film.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

Planning, planning, planning. However much time you think a task would take……plan for double or triple that amount. All aspects of creating a movie from scratch is a slow process. Plan ahead and work on your film throughout the whole school year so when its time to film, you will have thought of everything issue that can come up. Slow and steady wins the race.
