FILMMAKER INTERVIEW

What do you want the audience to take away from the film?

The main purpose of this movie is to entertain the audience and keep them on the edge of their seats with tension and suspense. But if we were to assign a moral to the story, it would be that there are always consequences to keeping things that aren’t yours, sometimes friendships aren’t as good as you think they are, and when something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.

Why are opportunities like Film Prize Junior important to students like you?

Film Prize Junior creates opportunities for students to be creative in ways they don’t often get to do in the classroom and to make their own vision of a film they want to see come true.

Which scene did you have an absolute blast filming and why?

The classroom scenes were the most fun to film, but the “running” scene was the most eventful.

What obstacles challenged you and your crew the most when completing this film? What did you learn from making this short film?

The main obstacle that challenged our crew was relying on other students to be at school when we needed them for filming. We learned that it’s hard to make a movie with students, due to the unknown of them being present. Another big challenge we faced was the time. We found out about this opportunity a little bit late, and we had other timing obstacles (like missing a week of school for “snow”), so we started later than most crews probably did. But we work together very well and we faced those obstacles head-on along with our teacher producer.

What advice would you give to future participants in Film Prize Junior?

The advice we would tive future participants is to get a strong group of about 10 people, and if you are going to work during school hours, make sure the core group are people who don’t miss school often and who are able and willing to work outside of school hours when needed. We would also suggest having at least two people who are really into the behind-the-scenes work of films, like the writing and setting up shots.
